Hey, I’m thrilled to see you’re developing a new version of the game. Just wanted to let you know my league’s also running on JSB. The link is below if you want to add it.

    Great to see you back!

Do you have a data based record of those who previously purchased the game? I purchased the game many times, but do not have a copy of a receipt any longer.

I have a roster file called stars. This is filled with the best players for each franchise. I made this when I first had jsb. Will this roster be able to be used in the new game? I spent a lot of time entering the data for this. If I say so myself, it was really good. It was great to see Bill Russell vs. Chamberlain. It also had many, many ABA players.

The initial release won’t be compatible with current leagues because of the huge change in data structure. However, one of the priorities of updates will be to allow compatibility of existing leagues. We will probably create a utility for it within the new game. Your roster file sounds great. We really want rosters like that to work with the new game.

Is the latest demo compatible with the special latest version you released for ijbl?

I think we should have a tutorial to be able to edit the features of the game easily, like players, teams, divisions, etc. Also a forum to share ideas for example.

Dean, not sure about incorporating your file into the release at this time. Also no release date pending. Just finishing JSB 2009 in 2009 would make me happy.
I hope to have some release notes soon but had some distractions the last 2 weeks or so and have been held up.

Did you use CSV files to setup your league? If so I could use it initially. Let me know!

A tutorial would be cool but I don’t have much time to work on it. Anyone want to help :) . I’m amazed at how some users know more about the game and how it works than I do.
I do plan on a forum in the future

Hey, I’m having a lot problems with 5.6… It was working well until I purchased it and after that it has a lot of bugs and it isn’t showing me my standings and it already played my allstar game even though I’m only in December on the schedule. I don’t know what to do here, I spent days on a custom league set-up and don’t want to go through that again… help if you can.

    Welcome back!

JSB remains my all time favorite sim, as it’s the only one that has let me run my NBA historical recreation project. I believe Ive even purchased the game twice… lol

But I have one problem thats been bugging me for a while…

I created a set of 1951 rosters and draft classes for subsequent years… Ive noticed that as I add the draft classes into the league that the original point guards from the initial 1951 file have their assist ratings fall to very low figures. Is their any reason for this? A few things to note is that it’s a 10 team league, and I had to create the players stats for offensive rebounds, blocks, steals and assists based on formulas as the NBA didnt track these stats yet.

It’s been awhile since ive attempted this sim, so the details may be a bit sketchy, ill try again and provide further information and files.

I appreciate the support, I know you guys are busy with the new version…

No CSV file. I just did every thing through the player editor. To bad the file can not be used. It is really good, but that is just my opinion.

I tried the Jump Shot trial but can’t get past the first season. When I run ‘END SEASON,” the game hangs. Is this because it’s the trial version? Am I doing something wrong?

Mike, the demo allows one full season although it shouldnt crash when you end season and instead you should get a box about registering , nag screen :) so I’m not sure about the game hanging :(

Without the CSV file it will be more difficult but not impossible. I’d like to check it out and work on it when we have time. I am sure its really good!

Sorry for not getting back sooner. Sounds like an awesome project! Are your results ok or is it just the ratings themselves that appear off? The way JSB ratings work they get adjusted each season based on everyone else. So if one season a player has a 99 rating then he is the best passer currently in the league but if the following season a player enters the draft who is a better passer (which really means that his assist per minute is higher) than the new player becomes a 99 and the former player drops relative to this player.
Not sure this is what you are encountering but it might explain it to some degree. It seems odd though. Not sure without looking but any historically great passer enter the league soon after 51?
For the new JSB we are attempting something similar to generate missing stats for historical players but the rating system is very different.

    @JSB Crew

Actually the problem has not occured in my latest attempt… I did some tweaks to the statistical formulas and it seems to have solved the issue!

The problems with the ratings did infact reflect in the stats, Bob Cousy dropped from a 90 pass rating and 6.5 APG to roughly a 17 rating and less then 2 APG. Im not entirely sure what caused it, but after tweaking the turnover formula league wide it somehow worked itself out. It definately wasnt due to an incoming great passer, as the 52 and 53 drafts were rather weak, so not sure what the deal was… Only other thing I could think of was I normalized the stats of a few guys who played very limited minutes to bring up their total stats as their ratings were skewed by their limited minues. My only real concern now is how the integration of the 3point shot will work, but thats a long way off… =]

Now that ive got that working Ive decided to turn it into an online league. Im affiliated with the excellent IBL league and along with a few of the owners, we are starting up a 51-onward league called RIBL

    http://ribl.iblhoops.net/

My tweaks are finished for the 1951 base roster and the first handful of draft classes, as I get the later draft classes finished ill be sure to post the files here for other JSB users to enjoy!

Really looking forward to the new JSB after hearing about this new stats generator! Perhaps it will allow my project to go back even further into the 40s? =]

Keep up the great work guys!

oh, also… is their a tutorial available on setting up a default league? Rather then always having to start from scratch with a custom league? Like basically I wanna make a 1951-52 default so I dont have to recreate my game as a custom league everytime.

Congratulations for this new website. Shotsports and JSB deserved to have a true website.
The design is great, all is clear and I like the commenting feature..

Can’t wait to test the new game version. Jumpshot is the best simulation software I know. Great work guys. You give us so much pleasure.

    Thanks for buying the game.
I will try to fix your issue.
Can you tell me if this was a custom setup?
If so can you explain the setup as much as possible.
If you want you can send the league files (all files with the name of your league in the Jump Shot Folder)
Would you prefer a clean install?
    - uninstall the game and deleting all files manually in the game folder
    - I would then send a temp link with the most recent version (which you should have but anyway) to install from
Sorry for the trouble – as far as I know this is not typical

When you create a custom league if you go to the folder and copy/rename the files .lge,.plr,.sch,.frn to start with default (ie default52.lge, etc) you can then load this default league for use with new custom leagues. Hope this helps

Any chance I can get some support on a issue in my league in the next few days??

we just ran our playoffs and the HTML export crashes when we reach the champion’s team schedule page.

We run a 10 team league with 2 best of 7 rounds…. after the finals round, their seems to be a blank 3rd round where the champion team plays a blank opponent…. these games cannot be simmed without a crash, and Im sure they are the issue.

    Any help please?

It does a clean install so it would be best to uninstall.
Also you should probably go into the folder where the game was installed and delete or backup the files (for custom leagues you want to keep)

I’m sorry about the All star game hassle. This has been reported several times recently and its priority on the fix list. Something to to with trades before the break.
If the game wont restart try going into the game folder – probably c:\program filesjumpshot and deleting settings.txt
    Thanks

  50. January 6th, 2010 at 03:11 | #50

Bought game on 1/2 but can’t use it because of a “runtime error..abnormal program termination” involvilng Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library.
Error cropped up earlier this evening and uninstalling, reinstallilng or deleting and redownloading etc. won’t get rid of it.
Have query into microsoft but do you know of a fix?
